I hate the beach. I know as someone who lives in Los Angeles it's supposed to be my idea of heaven, but I'd rather get waxed than spend the afternoon at Zuma (eyebrows, not bikini - I may hate sand, but I'm not insane). I do, however, love funky hair products, so I guess that explains my Kusco-Murphy Beach Hair obsession. It's this thick kind of gel that you put in your hair to make it fuller, piece-ier, and, for lack of a better word, "beachier." I have to say, more than any other product I've tried, this stuff pumps up the volume (remember that song?), although you have to use it sparingly because otherwise, you're looking at a Long Island prom queen hair situation. It can make your strands stick together a bit, but I have yet to find a product like this that didn't, so I don't really count that as a big negative since I guess it's kind of inevitable. It also smells great - like coconut mixed with sea air. Men will want to sniff your hair when you're wearing it. (Although that's only good when it's your boyfriend, not so great when it's that random smelly dude at the end of the bar who's been creepily staring at you all night). It's not cheap at $29, but even though the container doesn't look that huge, it lasts forever, so the money's definitely worth it. The one thing that makes me laugh is that it has sunscreen in it to protect your hair. That's a great idea, but I can't imagine anyone needing to wear this during the day, when they were actually out in the sun. It's definitely more of a night out, big hair kind of product. Unless you really are a Long Island prom queen, in which case, daytime use may be acceptable. The key word there being "may." I reserve the right to judge this on a case by case basis because while volume is good, looking like one of Nikki Sixx's groupies in 2007 is not.
