Love and Light

 

Okay, I admit it.  I'm not a huge Jennifer Lopez fan.  She's always just annoyed me, for some reason.  So I was fully prepared not to like her new perfume, Love and Light, when I got a sample of it.  (Or at least prepared to be very skeptical). But apparently, I'm not as hard to please as I thought because I actually kinda like it.  It's different from the usual scents I wear - it's kind of sweet and fruity, but with a touch of floral as well.  Here are the notes in it:

• Top Notes: Mandarin, pomegranate and red currant
• Mid Notes: Rose crystal absolute, velvety apricot and jasmine petals
• Base Notes: Patchouli, sensual musk and praline 

Once I saw the word praline, I was totally in, but the patchouli kinda threw me because as much as I try not to let it, it always reminds me of the few Grateful Dead shows I went to back when I was 15 or so and how much the parking lot always reeked of patchouli (and BO, but that's a whole other story...) Love and Light is definitely more of a fun, playful fragrance - I could totally see wearing it during the day or to work, but I don't know if I'd wear it out at night.  (It just doesn't strike me as a nighttime scent on me, but your mileage may totally vary).  The bottle's eye-catching too, with its sculptured design.  (I know it has no bearing on the scent inside, but any time I like the bottle, I'm just a teeny bit more likely to like the scent inside.  It's weird, I know...)  I guess I have to grudgingly admit J. Lo impressed me on this one.  But I still refuse to watch "American Idol" and you can't make me!

Sunkissed Glow

Now that Los Angeles has hit 96 degrees (WAY early, might I add) I am getting myself into summer mode, which means flip-flops, new makeup and a fresh fragrance.  I decided to try Sunkissed Glow, the new fragrance by JLo, and was pleasantly surprised.  Not at all sweet-smelling (like a lot of the other celeb perfumes), this one reminds me of an evening beach stroll in the summertime.  It has some woodsy notes to it, but isn't too strong so you don't feel as though you're one of "those girls" who douses herself in fragrance.  It has pineapple juice, ruby red grapefruit, some delightful florals and good ol' Amber, which gives it the musky/woodsy scent that I love.  While I'm not a fan of JLo as an artist (sorry!) I am a fan of her newest fragrance and am happy to have found a nice, summer scent to make me feel like every day is a beach day... when really it's another day behind a big desk staring into a fluorescent light.

Deseo This Scent

Oh, J-Lo, always so beautifully put together, it’s no big surprise that you would create such a sexy, alluring scent. I am amazed at how well I can wear “Deseo,” which smells strong when it first hits skin but quickly relaxes into a beautiful mix of many woodsy scents such as sandalwood and amber. This earthy fragrance is housed in an adorable gem-shaped bottle which is totally dresser top worthy. The one problem I have is getting a good grip to open the top, but my mom doesn't seem to have any problems so maybe I’m just weak. Wow, when your 4’11” mom has a stronger grip than you, it’s time to hit the gym regularly. Burglary Alert: My mom went back to New Hampshire after visiting and actually swiped Deseo from me because she loved it so much.  Guess I’ll have to buy another bottle for myself. Good thing it’s reasonably priced!
