So this post is waaaaay overdue (I only have myself to blame for my slack in posting). My friend was lucky enough to attend BeautyCon this year so I begged her to do a writeup on all I'd missed. Of course I wanted to share with all so we can all plan our trips next year to the event. There was a lot to see so below is just a small recap. You can check out the event online to learn more about what's coming for 2015.
BeautyCon is a summit that provides a great opportunity for fans to get up close and personal with some of the internet's most influential beauty and fashion personalities and brands. I didn’t go to the Preview Night on Thursday (which I heard was amazing), but when I went to the actual convention on Saturday - whoa! It was crazy! So many people, so much to see, a lot of things going on! When I first exited the elevator, it was like a colorful sea of beauty-enthusiasts and bright and bold booths.
Naturally, I made a beeline to the Tarte booth, as I’m a huge fan of the brand. They had an event-exclusive sale where all nearly everything was $10, and palettes and sets were $15. So, of course, I stocked up on mascara and blush. Additionally, they provided a peek at their new collection and their Rainforest After Dark palette, which wasn’t available for purchase at the booth. But I have to say that the colors of the palette are gorgeous - totally fitting with 2014’s color of the year: Radiant Orchid. Also, I’m loving the new snake icon for the collection. They’ve packed out their trademark eyelash curler with a clip-on charm of the snake, which I totally want even though I have that same curler.
The Cover Girl booth was amazing. They were definitely going with a music theme, complete with their own DJ (blasting music from talented musical Cover Girls such as Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, Pink, and Janelle Monáe) and this wall that looked like an illuminated EQ mixing board, composed entirely of their Colorlicious Lipglosses. Their line was coiled all around the floor with eager fans who were able to get madeover from professional makeup artists using Cover Girl’s newest product line.
Salon Perfect's new collection is inspired by the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. On one side of their booth, they were giving fans lash makeovers with professionals applying their trademark falsies. And on the side of the booth, they were giving out complimentary full-size nail polishes of your choice! Confession - I have never solved a Rubik’s Cube in my life, but Ruby’s Cube still called out to me. It’s a top coat with small square confetti in Rubik’s Cube colors - red, yellow, blue, green, white, and orange. And it looks like it’s densely populated with the confetti, so it could be worn over a base color or standalone. Can’t wait to try it!
And last I just had to include - there were puppies at BeautyCon! These adorable little pups were in a small wing of the floor that held booths that supported animals rescues. One such booth was Grounds and Hounds Coffee Co., a company which gives 20% of their proceeds to multiple animal organizations, who were selling hot and iced coffee (totally delicious, by the way). It was really awesome to see booths like this that didn’t necessarily fit the bill for BeautyCon, but they still had an amazing presence for a good cause.
Some other highlights:
- Panels were held at a central stage in the middle of the floor, so you didn’t need to wait in a line to attend (VIPs were able to snag seats). You could just walk on by and listen to the panel if you wanted.
- Of course, being a digital-based beauty convention, it was absolutely crucial to hashtag this or Instagram that to take advantage of all the opportunities there. It was really neat to see so many companies market themselves using social media as a way to get closer to their consumers.
- There were multiple meet-and-greet events planned throughout the day, and a bunch of YouTube beauty gurus were just walking the floor and taking photos with their fans. It was like a real-life internet party. By the way, beauty gurus are more beautiful in person than on camera. I don’t know how it’s physically possible to have skin that immaculate.
Overall, BeautyCon was jam-packed with loads of content. Really exciting and can't wait 'til next year!
