Summer With Calvin Klein

Ck one used to kinda be my jam for a very specific moment in time when it first came out.  Which is kinda funny because it's really not the kind of scent I would think I'd like, but I really did at the time.  (I haven't smelled the original in a long time, so maybe I still would.  Who knows?)  So when I got the chance to try ck one Summer (the English major in me really balks at the non-capitalization of the actual name, but I will abide by Calvin's wishes!) I jumped at the chance to see what the summer version was all about.  And... I kinda think I like it more than the original (from what I remember).  The top note in it is lime mojito (I know!), the middle note is sweet guava, and the base note is cedar wood.  It's kind of like a fruity, fresh scent - not heavy or floral - and it's weird how I really could see either a man or a woman wearing it.  It definitely reminds me of the warm weather and the beach and a tropical location.  I think I'd wear this on vacation or to brunch on the weekends.  Also, now I reallllllllly want a mojito.  Someone make that happen!

For All Eternity...

It had been a long time since I used Calvin Klein's Eternity, so when I got a bottle of Eternity Now, I wasn't sure what to expect.  But when I opened the box, I sort of instantly fell in love with it because the bottle is so pretty.  It sounds weird, but the bottle's always make a difference in how I feel about the fragrance.  Luckily, Eternity Now lives up to its bottle's potential.  With notes of Lychee, Quince Sorbet, Nectarine, Peonies, Peach Blossoms, Neroli Petals, Cashmere Veil, Ambrox and Precious Musk, it's kind of like a fruity floral.  It's different than I thought it would be, almost sort of... clean? I'm not sure exactly how to describe it, but it's light and super pretty - perfect for work or a date.  It does wear off a little quickly on me - I'd probably end up reapplying at night if I was going out - but body chemistry is so subjective that that could be an issue only I have with it.  Definitely a worthy addition to the Calvin Klein fragrance line up (and my perfume collection!)

Step Into Summer

I have to say, unisex fragrances have never really been my thing.  They always seem super cool and trendy, but I don't know, they just never really appealed to me before.  But the new CK One Summer is definitely intriguing to me.  It has notes of Frozen Lime, Grapefruit, Melon, Tequila Accord, White Freesia, Cypress, Coconut Water, Crushed Sugar and Cedarwood, which might be the most random collection of notes I've ever typed about a scent before.  But don't they all seem weirdly delicious?  Frozen Lime makes me think of summer cocktails by the pool and Crushed Sugar makes me want to bake something dessert-like immediately.  The actual scent is sort of hard to describe - it's sort of fruity and sweet, but definitely leans more toward the masculine than those two things would seem to indicate (maybe it's the Tequila Accord and the Cedarwood?)  I actually really like the way it smells on me - it's very different from what I would normally wear, but in a funky kind of way.  It's a nice departure from my normal clean scents and something I could definitely see spritzing on during the long days of summer.  Bring on the heat!

ck one Takes Over

Well, this is interesting.  Calvin Klein, Inc. today unveiled the first images from the advertising campaign for their new ck one color cosmetics line.  This is the first I've heard of it, but it sounds massive, with over 130 products "that all capture the core ck one brand DNA - authentic, confident and cool."  I can't wait to see images of the actual products because I'll bet they're going to be gorgeous.  The collection will debut worldwide beginning in March, and here in the US the products will be sold in limited distribution starting in late April and nationwide in September.  Can't wait!

Sort of IN2THIS

I've never been a big fan of Calvin Klein's perfumes. That stupid CK1 was EVERYWHERE and I hated it on principle. Also, the Kate Moss ads really annoyed me. So I had no intention of ever trying Calvin's new scent, especially when I realized he had decided to name it ck IN2U her (there's a ck IN2U him as well). What's up with all the weird inital names, Calvin? I think it's supposed to be hip, but it just makes me think of spelling tests from elementary school. But the nice salesperson at Sephora graciously put some perfume testers in my bag the last time I was there (without me even asking!) and one of them happened to be ck IN2U her, so I threw it in my bag for my trip back to NJ. Much as I wanted to hate it, I sort of didn't. The description says that it's a "fresh floriental," but really, to me is smelled more orangey, almost citrusy. I don't usually like oriental scents, but whatever they did to this one was definitely appealing. I even had two separate people ask me what I was wearing when I wore it out one day, which always makes me think it's a fragrance I should put in my everyday rotation. (Yes, there's a rotation. I know that's sad, but hey, at least I use all of them). It's actually not that expensive either, only $50 for 3.4 ounces. I'm not going to rush right out and buy it considering my bias against all things Calvin, but I wouldn't rule it out the next time I get a gift certificate either. What can I say? I'm weak, people. Very, very weak.
