butter LONDON Spring/Summer 2012

We all know of my love for butter LONDON lately (well, since I discovered them...)  And I adore the cheeky names and fun descriptions.  It's nail polish!  It should be fun! 

Founding Creative Director Nonie Creme has this to say about the new Spring/Summer 2012 collection:

“What a season!  Pops of neon colour everywhere, tempered by sherbet pastels and cool neutrals.  It left us plenty to play with in the nail realm.  I’ve mixed a couple of softer opaque shades in cantaloupe and pale pistachio, and followed up with an intense retro turquoise and slightly glittery hot pink.  Finally, a quietly marvelous sheer oyster that packs a tiny punch with micro glitter particles for those seeking a new way to wear neutral.  The message this season is KNOW who you are, then BE who you are!  It’s all about the individual this season, and the beauty world is yours to rule.”

Here are the shades in the collection:

• Bossy Boots - A light, opaque pistachio green.  It's a derogatory name for someone who is pushy or bossy (usually reserved for children)
• Disco Biscuit - A tropical hot pink with an undercurrent of tiny iridescent glitter particles.  It's a club term from the rave days of the early 90's for a tablet of Ecstasy.
• Knackered - A sheer, twinkling oyster shade flecked with micro glitter particles.  It means to be tired or exhausted. 
• Slapper - A truly teal lacquer, bold and very bright.  It's Brit-speak for "slut."
• Trout Pout - An opaque shade of cantaloupe, pale and retro.  It's slang for a woman who has overdone it on the collagen in her lips, giving her a "fishy face."

I'm definitely going to need to get my hands on Knackered and Disco Biscuit, and possibly the other three as well.  So pretty!

Knight Me

Uch.  I really wish I didn't love all the new holiday glitters so damn much because I just keep buying them and it's hell on my bank account.  But I love Butter London's new The Black Knight so much that I just sucked it up and bought it before I could feel guilty.  (This is a repetitive theme in my product buying life, by the way).  It's such a gorgeous shade and it's a limited-edition and if I don't buy it now, I may never get it, so whatever.  I'm just going to keep repeating "I deserve it" over and over to myself until the guilt goes away.  

Who wouldn't want this shade though?  It's a black base with black, pink, blue and silver glitter mixed in - so seductive and mysterious.  I like it a lot for the holidays because it's more of a sophisticated glitter.  Plus, I love Butter London's formula.  All their shades go on easily and last a long time on me before they start chipping.  Seriously though, you guys, there are 12 year-old girls who don't have as many glitter nail polishes as I do at this point.  Somebody stop me from buying any more!!!

Butter London Autumn/Winter 2011

I've been so, so into Butter London polishes lately.  (I'm kind of unofficially - and probably obsessively-compulsively - trying to collect all of them).  So of course when I wandered into Nordstrom's yesterday and they were having a buy two, get one free sale on Butter London polishes, I had to grab some.  (Especially since they had some of the new fall colors too).  Wallis was already sold out, but I managed to grab Knees Up, Toff, and No More Waity, Katie.  I'm kinda bummed about Wallis because that was the one I most wanted to see in person, but I'm sure it'll be at ULTA soon and I'm super happy about the other three I got because they're gorgeous.  I love the metallic red of Knees Up, and I've been wanting No More Waity, Katie forever, so I was happy to finally snag a bottle.  Toff is an interesting sort of rose-pink that I don't really have a dupe for in my polish stash, so it definitely had to come home with me.  Now I'm just trying to decide if I really need Bluey, since I rarely wear blues, but I'm trying to be a little funkier in my shade choices so maybe that's the one that's supposed to start me down that path?  (And really, at worst it'll make a great pedicure shade).  I think we all know how this is going to end up... 

All Hail McQueen

I've been looking for Butter London's All Hail McQueen polish since I first saw it online.  All the pictures people posted of it looked great, but there aren't any stores around me that carry Butter London and I was loathe to buy it online without seeing it in person first.  And then this weekend, I was checking out the new Nordstrom's in Santa Monica (which as a side note, is totally amazing - the handbag section alone almost made me hyperventilate with excitement, although I couldn't afford a single one of them) and lo and behold, they have an entire Butter London display.  I was so excited, I immediately wanted to text someone and share the news, but then I realized that most of my friends aren't product obsessed like me and probably wouldn't care.  I instantly grabbed the bottle of All Hail McQueen and fell in love and it only took me about 10 seconds to hand it to the salesperson to ring up, only to discover that the bottle I was holding was the tester and there were no more bottles of it on the display.  She told me that she'd check in the back for me, but knowing how popular the shade's been and how bad my luck usually is, I wasn't expecting much.  And then, like a product miracle, she came out clutching a brand new bottle in her hands and I knew immediately that I would be stopping to get a mani/pedi on the way home because it was too pretty not to be wearing.

Describing it is hard because it's not going to sound nearly as pretty as it is but I'll try.  I'd describe it as a nude beige with micro glitter in it, so it's almost like a neutral color, but the tiny bits of glitter add such a pretty shimmer to it.  It's not full-on bling like most glitter polishes, it's more subtle than that, but it's definitely not a boring shade at all.  I tend to like darker colors on my fingers, but I love the way this one looks next to my pale skin.  It's just a classic shade that I can see myself wearing again and again, which is nice because it's a pricier shade at $14 a bottle.  (But well worth it!)  I had to make myself walk away from several other Butter London shades because I'm really trying to stick to my product budget, but now that I know I can drive to that Nordstrom's anytime, I can already feel my resolve slipping for next weekend.  Spacing out the purchases counts, right?  RIGHT????
