Since I try and stay out of the sun as much as possible, it's been a long time since I had a bad sunburn. And for some reason, even when I did, I'd never used aloe on it. Well, that all changed this week when I spent way too much time out in the Costa Rican sun. In my defense, I was wearing a lot of sunscreen, but apparently even a 30 SPF is no match for those rays because I was miserable. Not just from the pain, but from the fact that I managed to burn the entire front half of my body from only the waist up, so I kind of looked like a walking checker board. Actually, since I burnt my nose too, I looked like a walking Rudolph the red nosed reindeer checker board. It was not pretty. And it hurt really, really bad, so when someone offered me their Banana Boat Aloe Vera Gel, I jumped on it. I have to say, it really works. My skin was on fire, but for a brief period of time after I put on the gel, it felt a lot better. The only problem is that the effect doesn't last too long, so you're forced to keep reapplying, but that seems inevitable when you're sunburnt. It is a little sticky, but it absorbs quickly, so it's perfect for when you're sitting around naked because it hurts too much to put on clothes. And a big bottle only costs about $5, which is hilarious because I would've written Banana Boat a check for any amount if the bottle had run out in Costa Rica. So now I know what to use for a little relief in case I'm ever stupid enough to lay out in the sun again. Because something tells me those strong tropical drinks they were whipping up behind the bar aren't going to be available to me in such a large supply the next time around. What a shame...
