I'm on a serious, serious nail ploish kick lately. Which is great when it's time to choose a mani/pedi color, but not so fabulous when you're trying to figure out how to pack up all your bottles to move or when you're going over your bank statement and realize that you spent almost an entire credit card payment on polish that month (whoops!) Duri is a brand that I've discovered recently online and I've fallen in love with the colors I've tried so far. I tested out four shades - two from the Fall/Winter 2010 Angels and Demons collection (the colors pictured above) and two from the upcoming Fall 2011 Wine Tasting collection.
From Angels and Demons, I tried the one on the above left, also called Angels and Demons, and the one on the right, Kingdom of Shadows. They're gorgeous, right? Angels and Demons totally speaks to me and my grey polish obsession. It's a shimmering metallic dark grey with silver glitter and it's absolutely fabulous. It's sort of an edgy neutral (if that's even a thing - and if it's not, it should be!) I feel like I could easily wear it to work and out at night and it would look great in both environments. It's especially perfect as we (hopefully) head into cooler weather. Kingdom of Shadows intrigues me because it's unlike any polish I already have in my ever-expanding stash. It's described on their website as a "dark purple/brownish, small blue/green shimmer, semi-sheer" and that's about as well as I could describe it too. It's just this great mixture of all those colors and it looks different depending on what light you're glancing at it in. So unique and interesting and even though most shades I buy instantly strike me as either a manicure shade or a pedicure shade, this is one I could see using for both. (I like to consider that my highest praise, like if a color gets that, the bottle should take its cap off and salute me or something). The consistency of the polishes was good - after two coats of each, the color was opaque (which is funny considering that Kingdom of Shadows is described as semi-sheer) and the formula is DBP, toluene and formaldehyde-free. I had them on for about 5 days and by the time I took them off, they had chipped a little, but I spend a lot of time in front of my computer typing, so that pretty much happens to me no matter what polish I have on these days.
From the Wine Tasting Party collection, I tried two shades - Grape Swirl and Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary is a bright red and Grape Swirl is a shimmery violet with a touch of grey. I like Bloody Mary, but if you have a lot of reds, you might be able to slide by without picking this one up. Grape Swirl, on the other hand, I definitely recommend grabbing because it's such a pretty shade to wear for the transition into autumn weather.
You can pick up the Angels & Demons collection now on their website at duri.com, but you'll have to wait until September to grab the Wine Tasting Party shades. (I might have to pick up Pinor Noir myself, just in honor of my favorite wine). Best of all, each bottle is only $5, so you buy a bunch of shades without feeling much guilt. (I know, I know, I'm an enabler...) Isn't discovering new brands fun?
