When Hillary Schneider was a twenty-something New Yorker, she designed her own personal scent - a mixture of scented oil, body lotion, and mist - that she wore all the time, getting her tons of compliments and questions about what it was. In fact, one night she was standing outside of a restaurant and a man asked her about it and said, "I could fall in love with a woman who smells as beautiful as you." (Such a great opening line, although if it happened to me, the guy saying it would be like, 60 years old, wearing a bad toupee and totally creepy because those are usually the ones who comment on my perfume choices - sad, I know). Hillary went on to marry him, giving her one of the best "meet cute" tales I've heard in recent years, and also a great story for how ILARI came about.
I'm VERY picky about my scents and ILARI has quickly worked its way into my rotation. It's a roll-on perfume (perfect for travel!) that's a blend of Jasmine, Sandalwood, Musk, Ebony Wood and Orange Blossom. It's very unique, which I adore because I hate smelling like anyone else in the room, but that also makes it kind of hard to describe. The press materials call it a mix of "soft and feminine with clean and herbal" and I totally get what they're saying. Clean scents are what I usually reach for, but ILARI doesn't smell exactly like the ones I already own - it's sort of heavier and you can definitely smell the Jasmine and Sandalwood, but it's very feminine and not overpowering at all. It's sort of like a delicate musk (although I know that doesn't do it justice either!) It's definitely a scent that I recommend you smell in person because I think once you do, you'll fall in love and want to wear it yourself. Who knows, maybe the ILARI luck will rub off on you too and you'll be searching for a wedding dress before you know it...
ILARI retails for $65 and is available at Barneys New York (you can also find it online at barneys.com and ilarinyc.com).
Note: A sample of this was sent to me by a PR representative working with ILARI
