I had heard buzzing about Blue Medi Beauty Spa in Sherman Oaks, but it wasn't until a friend gave me a gift card that I stepped into what has quickly become my new go-to place for facials. From the moment you step into Blue, you are greeted by very happy, friendly people which is always my first indicator of a great spa. The place is decorated in white with accents of blue (no shocker there) everywhere. They have an exposed ceiling that they've painted white, which really opens the place up, and use accent pillows in various shades of blue to really give the spa a relaxing, oceanside feel. Unlike most spas, Blue offers a huge menu of treatments, including Botox, Restylane, Laser Hair Removal and Tattoo Removal (to name a few listed in their booklet of offerings), but I opted for the basic blue facial, which at $100.00 is actually cheaper than Burke Williams.
After filling out a series of sheets asking me what I was allergic to, what my health history was like, and if I had any specific problems to be addressed today (really, I think they wanted to give me the opportunity to practice my initialing skills) I was ready to get to my treatment. My aesthetician, Emjay, greeted me with a huge smile (and she was wearing these adorably dangly earrings, but I'm off topic here) and led me to a private room where soothing music played. She asked me what, if any, problems I was having with my skin and I was instantly impressed with her demeanor (calm and she really took in everything I had to say). After the necessary strip down (alone, of course) I was under the blankets and ready for the magic to happen. She dipped my hands in paraffin (gotta love that) and got to work on my face. I have a serious problem with blackheads, which she managed to clear up in one visit. I am not even exaggerating here. She cleansed, put on this amazing papaya mask, scrubbed away with a green tea exfoliating scrub by Fenix (I have to rave about this in another post) and squeezed away until all those pores were clean and happy. While a soothing mask settled on my face, she massaged my neck and hands and I almost fell asleep because I was so relaxed. Aside from the best facial I've had in LA (and I've lived here for 10 years, so you can imagine the amount of facials I've had) Emjay explained to me that she caters each facial to fit the needs of the client. Basically, she doesn't use just one brand on everyone and doesn't believe in the whole pushing products on clients. When I asked about the scrub (which was incredible), she was happy to chat about it, but in no way encouraged me to buy it (which I did because I'm a whore for new stuff). Her professionalism and knowledge of all things skincare made such an impact on me I had to do a post on the spa to encourage others to give it a try. I'm thinking my next trip will be for a microdermabrasion (oooh, fancy) because I'm a virgin to the treatment and, well, am ready to take the leap. At least I won't have to avoid the skincare treatment in the hall because I'm annoyed by him the next day.
Blue Medi Beauty Spa is at 14622 Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks (818) 783-3600. Ask for Emjay, you'll be happy you did.
I drive from West Hollywood to Sherman Oaks just to see Emjay. She always makes my skin glow to perfection. Love her!!

Wow! Thanks for sharing the experience. I'll definitely recommend it to my friends living nearby. There are very rare skin care salons who have this much knowledge. Its great you found one.
