Now that summer is almost here, I'm on my yearly quest for a new summer scent. While some of my old favorites are still in the mix (Bobbi Brown's Beach is one that I come back to year after year), my current obsession is Bond No. 9's Fire Island. Described as smelling like "freshly bathed skin, doused with a coating of premium Euro-sunscreen then warmed up by a midday siesta on the beach - and the sensual stirrings of a body in heat," it's the perfect summer scent. (As a side note, how brilliant is that description? It makes me want to be on a yacht in the Mediterranean drinking something fruity instead of stuck in the valley during a heatwave).
Here are the notes that it contains:
- Top notes: Cardamom, ozone
- Middle notes: Neroli, white musk
- Base notes: Skin musk, tuberose, patchouli
It's hard to describe exactly what it smells like on - the best I can do is say that it smells like summer, like spending the day at the beach. (I'm guessing this is the ozone, although I'm not really sure). It's light, but the scent really lingers. I spritzed it on hours ago and it's still almost as strong as it was then. (I love it so much that I can't stop smelling myself. It's a good thing I'm not out in public or I'd probably be getting some very strange looks!) It's very unique, so I think it's the kind of scent that you need to smell yourself to understand how pretty it is. And Bond No. 9 continues to have the prettiest bottles around - Fire Island comes in a sunburst golden-yellow bottle with a deep blue top. It looks exactly like something a fragrance meant to evoke the beach should come in. (It would also look fantastic on my dresser. Hint, hint). Normally, today's hundred degree weather would make me cranky, but I smell so great right now, nothing can get me down. (The fact that I'm sitting in an air conditioned room eating ice cream also helps).
Fire Island retails for $125 for 1.7 ounces and $185 for 3.4 ounces. You can read more about it at BondNo9.com.
