Fashion Week Swim

MAKE UP FOR EVER has signed a three year agreement to serve as the official make up sponsor of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, the buzzed about annual event where top swimwear designers from around the world gather to showcase their upcoming collection.  As a brand that embraces color and strives to develop make up that performs in extreme environments, MAKE UP FOR EVER's collaboration with Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim offers an ideal venue to launch and test new products that need to stand up to the tropical Miami climate. 

From July 15th-19th, MAKE UP FOR EVER will take Miami by storm behind the scenes and front of house at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim.  MAKE UP FOR EVER ALLIANCE artists will be providing make up services backstage at top swim shows, and the brand will also be taking part in a number of events and lounges during the long weekend.

Makeup Artist: Tina Turnbow 

Inspiration: Nature's celestial landscapes - think of the nighttime sky and imagine a full moon peeking behind the clouds.

Overall Look: The moonlit eyes are mysterious, while the complexion and lips have a cloudy, hazy feel.

Eyes: Silvery, moonlit eyes-a silvery/black smoky eye without edges and just a touch of blue. The eye is almost 3D, rounded and mysterious. 

Direction: Think of the eye as a rounded sphere or planet. The inner crease of the eye is darkened up to the brow with the shimmery deep blue gray (eyeshadow in lucy I'm home). The outer area is rounded, softly muted blackness. The center of the eye is the lightest, with darker edges (inner and outer corner of eye) ending in black (eye couture palette). Apply blue lagoon only in the center of the top and lower lids. Blend the blue into the gray and then into a bit of the black. There should be a bit of the blue and silver gray (eye couture palette) blended in the center of the lower lashline. Apply smolderEYES in the inner rim of the eyes. Top it off with a coat of lights, camera, lashes! mascara on the top and bottom lashes (no curling needed). Leave eyebrows - do not fill in. After finishing the eyes, clean underneath with the eraser 4-in-1 natural concealer.

Complexion: It should feel muted like a hazy, cloudy sky. The mineral powder will matte and tone skin.

A 1930's Egyptian influence weaves together fashion and beauty at the Fall 2010 Rachel Roy Fashion Show.  Peacock prints are lifted from feminine silhouettes and translated into bold, beautiful makeup.  Iridescent "peacock feather" eyes gleam in denim and burgundy metallic shades from brow to lower lash line with a hint of aqua on inner corners, ultimately lined with black kohl pencil.  An even, dewy finish of the skin, softly defined pink cheek, and sheer beige lip allow the eyes to be the star of this show.

NARS For Marc Jacobs

NARS Cosmetics created the makeup look at the Marc Jacobs AW2010 show.  Here's some info on how it was created:

Inspiration: "I was inspired by the film La Vie des Autres.  I wanted the models to have a dirty look as if the hair and makeup had been slept in," said designer Marc Jacobs, who specifically requested Barbarella lipstick to be used on the models’ lips.

Look: “This look is what you’d see on a girl from the East Village or St. Germain des Pres - an existentialist with a modern twist,” said NARS Cosmetics Founder and Creative Director François Nars, whose application technique included using his fingers to achieve the faded effect.  “These girls are sexy and cool.  Their makeup looks dirty and worn out as if it has been on all night but still translates beautifully on the runway.”

It's Fashion Week again, but sadly, neither of us could make it to New York to experience it firsthand again.  (Damn those pesky "job" things).  Pictures and info about the looks are filtering in from the shows and we'll try and post as many as we have time to (damn jobs again!)  First up is Bobbi Brown for Yigal Azrouel:   

Inspired by a collection rich in texture, the makeup for the Fall 2010 Yigal Azrouel collection is about the texture of the skin.  Chic, yet effortless, skin is bronzed with emphasis on cheeks, and eyes are softly defined in beige and brown tones.  Nude lips complete a fairly monotone, natural look, with the exception of a strong, linear, defined brow.

Fashion Week - Rag & Bone

Teddy Charles, lead stylist for Frederic Fekkai, created a rough and tousled look full of texture and volume for the Rag & Bone Spring 2010 show.  After a few spritzes of Fekkai Tousled Wave Spray, he rolled hair to make it piecey.  He then wrapped and teased the hair into messy tendrils with Fekkai Full Blown Volume Lifting Hairspray.  He completed the look with the Fekkai Au Natural Dry Shampoo to create a matte finish.
