Stormy Weather Ahead

I really thought I was over grey polishes, but it turns out, not only am I not over them, I love them more than ever.  They're seriously some of my favorite shades right now, none more so than Deborah Lippman's new for fall Stormy Weather.  Look at how pretty it is!  Deborah describes it as an "edgy granite," which is really all you need to know.  I think of it as sort of a dark grey creme, but no matter how you describe it, it's one of my favorite new shades for fall.  And it has a really cool story behind it, too.  Deborah created it for Narciso Rodriguez during Fashion Week as a last minute addition to his show (in less than 24 hours, none the less!)  I am so all over this shade for fall and winter.  It's sophisticated and modern, but still trendy.  I'm thinking of it as a new classic to add to my stash of a few select shades that I make sure never to be without.  Bring on the stormy weather!

Fashion Forward

So my latest nail obsession is the nude look that's been in all the magazines I've read lately.  (Note - it's possible I'm coming very late to this trend, as the stack of magazines piled up in my living room was starting to resemble a newsstand, so I blew through about half of them this weekend and had a sad moment when I realized one of the ones I was reading was from April of LAST YEAR.  Clearly if I don't get my act together, I'm going to wind up on an episode of "Hoarders" at some point).  Anyway... nude polish.  I love it.  It looks so classic and elegant on pretty much everyone, and it's especially nice because it's easy to touch up and even though I am terrible at doing my own nails, even I can manage to give myself a nude manicure.  My current favorite is Fashion from Deborah Lippman.  It's the perfect taupe cream and it transitions perfectly from day to night.  (And oddly enough, just as I was typing this, I got an e-mail about the polish that Anne Hathaway was wearing at the Oscars last night and it was Deborah Lippman's Naked, a new shade for spring that's a sheer bare beige.  So maybe I'm not as behind on my trends as I thought!)  I might have to go from Fashion to Naked this weekend...

Boom Boom Pow!

 

I have been very hot or very cold about Black Eyed Peas songs (I was such a fan of their first album and then had to re-adjust when Fergie came on board).  Anyway, one of the hits I do love (even though it was way overplayed here in LA) is Boom Boom Pow.  So, when I saw Deborah Lippmann added Boom Boom Pow to her glitter collection there was some singing (badly) and dancing with excitement!  First of all, if you haven't checked out the glitter collection you are completely missing out.  These nail colors are hands-down my favorite of the moment.  They all have the ability to be worn alone or over other nail colors so really one bottle is a definite multi-tasker.  Boom Boom Pow is a super-sexy gold glitter which actually contains 24k gold dust - instantly hoisting me to super-fancy status.  I am staring at my nails as I type this because they look so great (and I feel so cool right now).  I love that the polish has both tiny little golden flecks and then monster-sized ones (makes for an amazingly cool effect).  The gold is stunning on its own and also works well worn over a ton of other colors (I wore it over a salmon-colored polish and it was crazy-pretty).  The glitter collection has 7 beautiful shades (how pretty is Some Enchanted Evening?!), all retail for around $18.00 (Boom Boom Pow retails for $20) and all the polishes are free of formaldehyde, Toluene and Dibutyl Phthalate.  And, no animal testing (yay!).  Also, I would be crazy not to mention one of the greatest things about this collection?!  The glitter actually goes on smoothly and doesn't look tween-y.  I love you Deborah Lippmann - even though, sigh, you do not know I exist.

I'm a Rich Girl Now

Celebrity manicurist Deborah Lippmann has the best hand and cutlcle cream. Adorably named Rich Girl, this hand cream actually boasts an spf of 25 (wow!) and sinks almost instantly into skin. My one complaint is I wish it had a better scent to it. All I really smell when I put it on is sunscreen. While I don't particularly hate the smell of sunscreen, I'm not loving it either. I must wave my hands around a lot because I am constantly getting whiffs of sunscreen as I type this. I do love how it moisturizes and I appreciate the high spf to help in preventing age spots, but the scent could definitely be improved. At the steep price of $24.00 for a 3 oz tube, I really want to be in love with this stuff. I guess it's a lot like dating - if I'm gonna shell out gas money and pay for half a meal with some dude, I want to be happy with what I'm looking at the whole time (yeah, I'm talking to my ex who didn't shower enough).
